What Cat Supplies Do I Need For My New Cat?

If you have a new cat but you’re not sure which cat supplies you’ll really need, here’s a little list of truly essential cat pet supplies.

Litter Box, Cat Litter and Litter Scoop

You may want to start buying cat supplies by getting a litter box and some good cat litter to put in it. Next to their food, a litter box is a top priority for any cat, and it should be for their owners, too. Whether you buy a covered or uncovered litter box is a matter of personal preference, but make sure you buy good cat litter and the scoop to go with it. Almost every cat and kitten will already know what the litter box is for, so all you need to do is show your cat where it is.

Cat Food and Dishes

Next on the list of high-priority cat supplies are quality cat food and two bowls or dishes, one each for your new cat’s food and water. Remember that if your new cat is a kitten, you should buy kitten food rather than food that’s formulated for adult cats.

Flea and Tick Prevention

You don’t want your new cat to suffer with fleas or ticks, and you certainly don’t want those pests in your house or you’ll be suffering too. You can avoid this problem if you diligently use the right cat pet supplies before it ever happens. These important cat supplies include easy-to-use liquid topical medications that you place on your cat’s skin, or flea collars instead. Either way you can head off a flea or tick infestation, but the topical medications are vet-recommended and probably more effective.

Cat Bed

Every cat likes to be comfy and cozy, and your new cat will too. If your cat supplies don’t include a comfortable cat bed, your cat will probably use your bed to snooze on.

Cat Toys

Cat toys aren’t strictly essential cat pet supplies, but remember that almost all kittens and cats love to play. Cat toys come in every shape and variety and keep your cat active, happy and entertained.

First Aid Kit

It’s always good to be prepared for a sudden sickness or injury, so make sure that your cat supplies include at least the minimum you’d need for first aid. Hairball remedies and bandages are a good place to start putting together these important cat pet supplies.

Cat Carrier

A cat carrier isn’t absolutely essential, but almost all cats hate going for a ride in the car. And some cat car trips are necessary: at the least you should take your cat to your vet for regular checkups and shots. The best way to do this is to make a cat carrier be one of your pet supplies. It definitely will make your cat feel more comfortable, but it’s also safer and more secure.

Scratching Post

Last but not least, almost every cat loves using a scratching post. Cats sharpen their claws frequently, and using a scratching post to do this is much better than using your couch or other furniture. A scratching post isn’t one of the essential cat supplies, but it’s sure important for your furniture and your peace of mind. ;)
